On March 4-6, 2006, the BBC aired Facing the Truth in the UK, a three part television series that brought victims and perpetrators of the conflict in Northern Ireland together for dialogue. Archbishop Desmond Tutu facilitated the encounters along with Lesley Bilinda whose husband was killed in the Rwandan genocide, and Donna Hicks, former Deputy Director of the Program on International Conflict Analysis and Resolution at Harvard University and currently an Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Segments of the program will be shown at the talk.
Dr. Donna Hicks is an Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University where she chairs the Herbert C. Kelman Seminar on International Conflict. Her work is devoted to advancing the understanding of international and interethnic conflicts, and developing interactive processes that can be effective in managing or resolving such conflicts. In addition to her work in the Middle East, Dr. Hicks founded and co-directed a ten-year project in Sri Lanka, which brought the Tamil, Sinhalese and Muslim communities together for dialogue. She has been actively involved with the conflict in Colombia. For several years, she was involved in a project designed to improve relations between the US and Cuba. Dr. Hicks is currently writing a book entitled, “A Matter of Dignity: Building Personal and Political Relationships.”
