BATNA Basics Free Report delivers the best of BATNA negotiation

Here in Boston, we’re all about the Red Sox. That’s why I use the Sox’s 2007 acquisition of pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka from the Seibu Lions (Japan) as one of my most intriguing BATNA examples.

At time it seemed as if the Red Sox knew more about using BATNA negotiation than anyone involved. They not only gained the pitcher they wanted, they prevented him from going to the archrival New York Yankees.

Now, as he goes into the last year of that contract, everyone in baseball knows that Matsuzaka has been less than successful (to put it mildly). So maybe it was the Seibu Lions who had a stronger Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement or BATNA negotiation with Boston. After all, they got the money and also got rid of a player who turned out to be far less valuable than everyone else thought!

Let’s face it, if such a mistake could happen to big-time negotiators like the Boston Red Sox, it could certainly happen to you. Harvard mediation training and negotiation skills are essential in business today. That’s why I want you to master the strategy that’s the cornerstone of every successful deal ever negotiated.
