What is the Harvard Negotiation Law Review?
The Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School is a flagship sponsor of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review
The Harvard Negotiation Law Review is a journal for lawyers and legal scholars. In their mission statement, the journal points out that, “negotiation, not adjudication, resolves most legal conflicts.”
The Harvard Negotiation Law Review provides “a forum in which scholars from many disciplines can discuss negotiation as it relates to law and legal institutions.”
The journal is published twice each year, in the spring and in the fall, with diverse topics ranging from implicit bias in mediation to judicial settlement practices to U.S. government negotiations to ethical practices.
The Harvard Negotiation Law Review also publishes a series of online articles and abstracts covering topics such as negotiation scholarship, power imbalances, and failed negotiations.
In addition to the journal, the Harvard Negotiation Law Review has also hosted symposiums, some of which have been open to the public. For example, a symposium on the theory and application of restorative justice had a goal of to promote a discussion about the potential to leverage ADR practices and frameworks in restorative justice initiatives, and to serve as a forum for national dialogue on the theoretical basis and practical application of restorative justice.
Another symposium examined equity in the legal profession, while other talks have included discussions around activism and alternative dispute resolution
Beyond hosting their own events, however, the Harvard Negotiation Law Review has also sponsored talks examining the covert negotiations that ended apartheid.
