Time: 7:00 P.M.
Location: Pound 101, Harvard Law School

On Wednesday, November 9, 2005, Israeli Supreme Court Justice Ayala Procaccia will give a talk entitled “The Israeli Judiciary: Fighting Terror Under the Law.”

Justice Procaccia began her career as Legal Assistant to Chief Justice Simon Agranat, President of the Supreme Court of Israel, and served in various legal positions in the Ministry of Justice of Israel, including as Legal Advisor to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Israel. In 1987 she was appointed to the Jerusalem Magistrate Court, and was elevated to the District Court of Jerusalem in 1993. In 2001, Justice Procaccia was appointed one of 12 justices on the Supreme Court of Israel, where she presently serves. She received an L.L.B. and an L.L.M., both with distinction, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an S.J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Since her appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Procaccia has been influential in shaping Israeli policy. The Supreme Court has set binding legal precedents affecting the peace process and we look forward to an insightful discussion with Justice Procaccia about her role.

A question and answer period will follow Justice Procaccia’s presentation.
