About the talk:

Jorje H. Zalles will present a talk exploring the complex dynamics that could explain why several Latin American countries have freely elected authoritarian, populist anti-democratic régimes in the last two decades.

About the speaker:

Jorje H. Zalles is Professor and Department Chair emeritus of Conflict Resolution and Leadership Studies at Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Quito, Ecuador, where he taught from 1988 to 2019, and intervenes as an advisor and/or impartial third party in various types of public and private disputes.

A graduate of Yale and Harvard Universities, he was a Visiting Scholar in Conflict Resolution at Harvard University in 1996-1997, and in February 1997 was appointed an Associate of the Program on International Conflict Analysis and Resolution, PICAR, at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University.
