During the summer months, PON sponsors grants for select students at Harvard University, MIT, Tufts University and other Boston-area schools who undertake internships or summer research projects in negotiation and dispute resolution in partnership with public, nonprofit or academic organizations. The Summer Fellowship Program’s emphasis is on advancing the links between scholarship and practice in negotiation and dispute resolution by supporting students interested in exploring career paths, either professional or academic, in this field. Through this program, PON hopes to prepare students to assume leadership positions in the field of negotiation and dispute resolution, to forge new links between our academic community and worldwide organizations involved in the practice of negotiation and dispute resolution, and to encourage students to reach for opportunities that would otherwise not be available to them due to financial constraints.
We are excited to announce our 2022 PON Summer Fellows:
Shira Hoffer
Harvard College, Harvard University
Shira Hoffer is an undergraduate at Harvard College hoping to concentrate in Social Studies with a secondary in the Comparative Study of Religion. She has a particular interest in the human effects of First Amendment jurisprudence in the mediation of religious conflict. A member of the Harvard College Interfaith Forum and the Small Claims Advisory Service, as well as a Senior Staff Writer and Associate World Editor for the Harvard Political Review, she is passionate about creating spaces of intellectual debate and mutual respect across differences. Hoffer interned for Massachusetts State Senator Jamie Eldridge, as well as the New Hampshire Public Defender’s Office and the ACLU of New Hampshire, where she witnessed firsthand how the dynamics of criminalization, marginalization, and poverty are impediments to the development of negotiation skills. To help effect change in this area, she will work with Negotiation Works to bring the critical skills of negotiation and self-advocacy to underserved women and men in the Washington DC area, with the mission to empower people from marginalized communities with tools to resolve conflicts, advocate for themselves and others, and build more stable lives.
Nim Ravid
Harvard College, Harvard University
Nim Ravid is a Psychology and Economics student at Harvard College. Ravid’s research focuses on anchoring in negotiation across cultures, and on the social effects of susceptibility to anchoring. He also studies ways to reduce polarization at the Harvard Kennedy School Minson Conflict and Collaboration Lab. Ravid is the founder and leader of the Harvard Behavioral Strategy Group (BSG), a group that applies academic insights in social science to solving real-world problems. Prior to his studies at Harvard, Ravid served, most recently, as the Spokesperson of the Head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Parliament and worked as a member of the team appointed by Israel’s Prime Minister to take charge of Israel’s Covid-19 border-crossing policy. This summer, Ravid will study post negotiation satisfaction under Professor Jared Curhan’s leadership and conduct research for his book on conflict resolution within families.
