Susan Hackley Named PON Managing Director

By — on / News

The Program on Negotiation’s Steering Committee has announced the appointment of Susan Hackley as PON’s new Managing Director. She assumed the post October 1, 2001. According to Steering Committee Chair Robert Mnookin, “Susan brings energy and expertise to the position of managing director, and has the additional benefit of already being familiar with PON’s projects and people. Susan is a dynamic leader who will enhance PON’s ability to achieve its mission and reach out to new constituencies. We are delighted to have her on board.”

The multifaceted Ms. Hackley was most recently co-founder and acting CEO of Givenation.com, an Internet company enabling people to connect with causes they care about, and to make charitable donations online. The company merged with Worth Interactive (now HNW.com).

No stranger to PON, Ms. Hackley was affiliated with the Program for five years in the mid-1990s, following her completion of the MPA graduate program at the Kennedy School of Government. She initiated, developed, and implemented projects in the field of negotiation pedagogy for many of the Program’s constituencies – law and graduate students, executives and other professionals. She also was an instructor in the Winter Negotiation Workshop, perhaps PON’s most intensive teaching effort.

Ms. Hackley brings to the Program a wide range of experience in communications, public service, corporate relations, and issues analysis – elements key to the success of real-world negotiations. Her impressive capacities in these areas will all be put to good use in managing the interdisciplinary activities of PON, where integrating theory and practice are the basis for research and education.

“I am thrilled to be back at PON, and eager to help strengthen its core competencies, as well as explore new opportunities for sharing strategies and skills with those who work as problem-solvers. As a community of scholars and a renowned teaching center for practitioners, the Program on Negotiation serves a unique role in the world negotiation community.”

The PON community warmly welcomes Ms. Hackley to the team as a colleague and contributor in all aspects of the Program. We encourage all members of the Program to get to know her and to participate in the exciting agenda of activities in education, research, and outreach that make up the PON agenda for the coming year.
