Reintegrating Veterans Through Mediation Services

Jared Ordway, Program Specialist, National Association for Community Mediation

The National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM), based in Washington DC, created the Reservist Reintegration and Transitions Program (RRTP) in 2007. Jared Ordway, Program Specialist with NAFCM, will speak about his experience developing and implementing the pilot program.

Currently in the 8th month of its pilot phase, the RRTP provides mediation services, specialized conflict resolution training, and community outreach protocol for communities working through deployment and demobilization transitions. The target audience for training and services includes members from the following groups: Guard and Reservist personnel; military families; civilian employers; veterans; social and mental health service providers; and other interested community members.

The RRTP is currently being developed and tested within NAFCM’s national network of community mediation programs and in collaboration with active and veteran members of the US Military in Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, and Vermont.

Jared Ordway is a Program Specialist with the NAFCM and currently manages the RRTP Program. As a bilingual practitioner serving in the Washington, DC area, Jared develops and delivers conflict resolution training and community-building initiatives for diverse audiences. His experience ranges from work with university mediation and dialogue programs to consulting for international organizations. Jared holds a Masters degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University in Washington, DC.
