12:00 pm – 1:00 pm ET (US and Canada)

Free and open to the public.

About the talk:

What are the considerations of teaching negotiation and conflict resolution inside a prison? How do teachers manage their biases, the self-segregation of students in the classroom, and the structural imbalances outside of it? Which readings are most applicable for someone navigating the prison system? How do we conduct meaningful role-play simulations in an emotionally charged environment? In this session Max Bevilacqua, Managing Director at Mindful Negotiating, will share his experiences teaching in a medium-security Men’s prison in Massachusetts through Tufts University’s Prison Initiative at Tisch College.

About the Speaker:

Maxwell (Max) Bevilacqua is the Founder and Managing Director of Mindful Negotiating, a next-generation negotiation and conflict resolution collaboration that supports lawyers, executives, and the U.S. Military.

Prior to founding Mindful Negotiating, Bevilacqua advised and trained Fortune 100 Executives, Business Development Teams, and U.S. Special Forces as a Senior Trainer at Vantage Partners. Bevilacqua has been on the teaching team of Harvard Law School’s Negotiation Workshop and the Program on Negotiation’s (PON) Mediation and Conflict Resolution Seminar. Bevilacqua has taught Negotiation at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and MCI-Concord (medium-security prison) through Tufts University’s Prison Initiative at Tisch College.

Bevilacqua served as the Executive Director of In Good Faith, an INGO that translated Elie Wiesel’s Night into Bahasa Indonesia and led interfaith programming among universities in the U.S. and Indonesia. Max received a Fulbright Scholarship to Central Java and sits on the community-led environmental conservation non-profit Planet Indonesia board.

Bevilacqua holds a Master’s Degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he studied International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. He received his B.A. in Religious Studies from Wesleyan University.
