About the Talk:
The Program on Negotiation’s 2025-2026 Graduate Research Fellows will present their research on current topics in negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution. This session offers an opportunity for three fellows to share and discuss new findings with the negotiation community.
This webinar will explore topics such as the rehumanization of adversaries in high-level peace negotiations, how dispute systems design can be reimagined in a data-driven world, and how the micro-dynamics of conversation shape negotiation processes and outcomes.
About the Speakers:
Charlotte Hamm is a Ph.D. candidate at King’s College London studying rehumanization in high-level peace negotiations, focusing on social identity, emotion, cognition, and trust-building. She is a research associate at the Berghof Foundation and author of Psychology in Peacemaking: A Guide for Mediators and Negotiators, leading interdisciplinary initiatives that integrate psychological and neuroscientific insights into peace processes. Her work spans Afghanistan and Colombia, where she has supported conflict transformation efforts and examined the transition from war to peace. Trained in clinical and counseling psychology, she has worked with individuals affected by war and displacement and holds graduate degrees from Columbia University and a B.S. from the University of Osnabrück and Ewha Womans University.
Thilo Kerkhoff is a Ph.D. candidate at Bucerius Law School and a graduate of the Master in Public Policy (MPP) program at Harvard Kennedy School. He studied law at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and at the National University of Singapore and is a fully qualified German lawyer. Before coming to Harvard, he worked as an administrative secretary to an arbitral tribunal and served on the organizing team of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
Yaoxi Shi is a Ph.D. candidate in Organizational Behavior at Imperial College London, specializing in the psychology of negotiation and interpersonal interaction. Her research examines how the micro-dynamics of conversation shape social perceptions, influence decision-making, and relational outcomes in negotiation and other high-stakes interactions. Yaoxi was a visiting scholar at Harvard Business School in Fall 2024. She holds an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Psychology from Zhejiang University. Before her doctoral studies, she conducted research and taught in human–computer interaction at the University of Melbourne.
