Palestinian-Israeli Negotiations: Defining Progress Challenges

Event Date: Tuesday October 7, 2008
Time: 12:15 P.M.
Location: Pound Hall 203, Harvard Law School

Wassim Khazmo, communications advisor at the PLO’s Negotiation Support Unit (NSU), will discuss the current status of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The NSU was established in 1999 as a project of the PLO’s Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD). Its purpose is to provide highly professional legal, policy and communications advice to the NAD and Palestinian negotiators in preparation for, and during, Permanent Status negotiations with Israel. Following the collapse of formal negotiations at the outset of 2001, an additional purpose of the project has been to encourage the resumption of Permanent Status negotiations by contributing to a variety of diplomatic initiatives aimed at bringing the two sides back together. In his talk, Wassim will discuss his work and the current outlook for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Wassim Khazmo joined the NSU in 2005. He previously worked at the Orient House’s International Affairs Department as a political officer and Youth Projects manager. He holds a B.A. in business administration from Birzeit University and an M.A. in international studies and diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
