About the Talk:
Every year, the Program on Negotiation welcomes a group of graduate students as Graduate Research Fellows. Our Fellows spend a year at PON researching and writing about current topics in the fields of negotiation and mediation, with the goal of publishing their work after their time at PON.
This lunch provides an opportunity for two of this year’s Graduate Research Fellows to share their research findings with the negotiation community. Join us for fascinating, informal talks, followed by a rich discussion!
About the Speakers:
Netta Barak-Corren studies how people resolve conflicts between their legal and religious commitments, and whether and how the law influences their decisions. She will present her empirical research on the behavioral impact of antidiscrimination law on religious objectors.
Netta is an S.J.D. Candidate at Harvard Law School and the founder of Harvard’s Empirical Legal Studies Group. She has been a research fellow with the Behavioral Insights Group at Harvard, and the Behavioral Insights Team in London. Before coming to Harvard, Netta obtained an LLB/BA in Law and Cognitive Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and clerked for the Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court, the Hon. Dorit Beinish.
Michael Baskin’s research examines the use of negotiation and conflict resolution tools by military actors within armed conflict. He will present his research and the initial findings of his dissertation study, building on interviews with 46 US military officers regarding their negotiation experiences while deployed to Afghanistan from 2008-2013.
Michael is a PhD Candidate in international affairs at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He holds an MA from the IDC Herzliya, Israel, and a BS from the US Military Academy at West Point, NY, and is a former US Army infantry officer with service in Afghanistan and Iraq.
