Counseling Family Enterprise – The Role of Dispute Resolution Professionals

Event Date: Thursday February 26, 2009
Time: 8:30-10:00 A.M. (Continental Breakfast at 8:00 A.M.)
Location: Harvard Law School, Pound Hall 335

Families in business, whether pre- or post- a major liquidity event, often face difficult family and business conflicts over sharing assets, family participation and roles, operational decisions, inheritance, etc. Professor Peppet will focus on the skills and perspective that dispute resolution professionals can bring to such families, and on the common pitfalls that a “dispute resolution” mindset may create when working with family enterprises.

Professor Scott Peppet is a former researcher at PON/HNP, an HLS graduate, and a former lecturer at Harvard Law School. He now teaches both negotiation and a course on counseling family enterprises at the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder, Colorado. He also has an active consulting practice working with family-owned businesses and post-liquidity families.
