PON Film Series

Since 2005, the Program on Negotiation (PON) has been exploring the relationship between negotiation and strategic nonviolent action. Negotiation and nonviolent action are both tools for resolving conflict, and practitioners of both fields can learn much from each other. PON sees the two fields as more interdependent than ever and has hosted a series of events dedicated to highlighting the strengths and similarities of both approaches to conflict resolution.

Ela Gandhi and Bill Ury
In December 2006, PON and the Global Negotiation Project (GNP) held a symposium featuring Ela Gandhi, Gandhi's granddaughter and a former member of the South African parliament. This event, Negotiation: The Hidden Dimension of the Nonviolent Struggles of our Era, illustrated how negotiation and nonviolent action have been used to deal with some of the most intractable conflicts--includingAmy Finnegan political struggles in South Africa and India, and civil rights conflicts in the U.S.--and how these tools can effectively be used today.

The Negotiation and Nonviolent Action Student Task Force is a group of graduate students from the Boston-area that meet to discuss and further analyze the issues surrounding the intersection of negotiation and nonviolent action. This student group did research, writing and content-organizing for the Negotiation: The Hidden Dimension of the Nonviolent Struggles of our Era symposium.
