Judge Adler, President of the Israeli National Labor Court, will discuss his work and the dual role of the court as mediator and adjudicator in the recent public sector strike in Israel.
Judge Stephen (Steve) Adler is President (Chief Judge) of the Israeli National Labor Court. Judge Adler grew up in the United States, received a B.S. from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. He then worked in the Washington and Los Angeles offices of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). In 1968 he and his family went to Israel "for one year" and have been there ever since.
Judge Adler has served as a trial court judge and an appellate court judge. Since 1997 he has been the President of the Israeli National Labor Court and responsible for the overall function of the Labor Court system (65 judges, 5 trial courts, and the appeal court). The National Labor Court, under the leadership of Judge Adler, has contributed to the settlement (by adjudication and mediation) of many major labor disputes.
Judge Adler was recently listed by an Israeli newspaper as one of the 100 most influential people in Israel.
