About the film:

A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan (Tom Hanks), a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on a near impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. High stakes and suspense power a story inspired by true events that capture the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.

About the Speakers:

Martha Minow, the Morgan and Helen Chu Dean and Professor of Law, has taught at Harvard Law School since 1981, where her courses include civil procedure, constitutional law, family law, international criminal justice, jurisprudence, law and education, nonprofit organizations, and the public law workshop. An expert in human rights and advocacy for members of racial and religious minorities and for women, children, and persons with disabilities, she also writes and teaches about privatization, military justice, and ethnic and religious conflict. Michael Wheeler is the MBA Class of 1952 Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School where he teaches negotiation and a variety of executive courses. In recent years he has served as faculty chair of the first year MBA program. He has also taught The Moral Leader; Leadership, Values, & Decision Making; and, as a Visiting Professor at the Harvard Law School, Mediation & Consensus Building. Wheeler’s current research focuses on negotiation dynamics, dispute resolution, organizational design, and ethics. Wheeler is the author or co-author of nine books, including The Art of Negotiation: How to Improvise Agreement in a Chaotic World.

Beth Amorosi is the President of AMO Communications LLC, a strategic marketing communications firm for individuals, corporations, and non-profits. Her career has spanned working with luxury goods, real estate firms, high profile personalities, non-profit organizations, and firms in technology, media, and entertainment. She is also a speaker and expert on the legacy of renowned lawyer James B. Donovan, subject of the Oscar-hominated film Bridge of Spies and author of Strangers on a Bridge, and founder of the Donovan Institute, a non-profit dedicated to the advancement of diplomacy and the art of negotiation, as well as the pursuit of healthy role models for the next generation. Residing in New York City, she serves on the Board of the Lake Placid Institute for the Arts & Humanities and graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in English.

James Amorosi is a partner in Davis Polk’s Corporate Department concentrating on mergers and acquisitions. He handles all manner of M&A transactions on behalf of strategic and private equity clients, both internationally and domestically. His clients over the years have included Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs’ merchant banking division, Cosan, CVS, E*Trade, Masco, Western Refining, Corsair Capital and General Atlantic. Some of the recent transactions on which he has worked include various acquisitions by Goldman Sachs’ merchant banking division, the rescue of AIG by the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the $12bn Cosan/Shell JV and Morgan Stanley’s sale of its retail asset management business and its Japanese investment banking JV with MUFG.
