Speaker Bios

Paul W. Bricker, United States, colonel, United States Army is currently the commander of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade (Task Force Pegasus), which recently completed a 12-month deployment in southern and western Afghanistan in support of the International Security and Assistance Force, NATO. Colonel Bricker has served in a variety of aviation assignments from platoon to corps level in airborne, air assault, light infantry, and motorized divisions. Most recently, he served as the 82nd Airborne Division’s Rear Detachment commander during the division’s 2007 deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. Colonel Bricker has extensive high-level staff service, including assignments to the Pentagon, the Joint Staff, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is the recipient of numerous awards and decorations. A northern Michigan native, Colonel Bricker was educated at Michigan State University (bachelor’s degree), National Defense University (master of science), and Golden Gate University (master of science).

Abdul Wahid Wafa was born and raised in Kabul,  Afghanistan.  He studied Law and political Science at Kabul University and has worked as a reporter for The New York Times since 2001.  He is currently a Nieman Fellow. During his year at Harvard he plans to study international affairs and learn more about state-of-the-art journalism, particularly the revolution in online reporting.
