Sometimes as a purchaser I want what I want. In your example the seller should be prepared to lose the whole business if they take your approach. A few years ago I told a vendor I wanted their best price. They sent me an offer that was not in my range. When they did not hear back they called and essentially said, "Well in this business a company always makes a counter-offer.Where is your counter-offer?" I told them there is no counter-offer. Someone else got that purchase. Word got around and now when I ask for an offer the vendors know that I need their best price first go round and I get it. This saves me a large amount of time with back and forth negotiations and I still end up with a good price while spending less much time on it. Frankly, most of them appreciate it as well because they save time too. Reply
