I am not convinced, I find that thinking about a negotiation results in learning from the experience and improving skills. I suppose when you deal with different transactions instead of a more narrow area of transactions, it may make a big difference, but when the scope is much more narrow I feel negotiation skills actually improve. In any situation where you were under pressure its always useful to review your performance - what went well and what went badly. However, there is only a certain amount you can learn from your mistakes, so I would say it’s important to consciously stop your review and move on after you have gleaned the learnings. Constant rumination about the failures of the past can inhibit you in future, as this post suggests. Reply
